Pulsevis
Barcodes at the counter and on the shelf

Barcode POS Software for Small Businesses

Scan it, sell it, label it.

Pulsevis keeps a barcode on every product and every size and colour, and finds the item when you type its code. On Premium, a scan puts the item straight into the sale, and you can generate codes and print your own labels.

How scanning works ↓
✓ Store and search barcodes on every plan✓ Scanning and labels on Premium

Store and find product barcodes

Every product, findable by its code.

Saving barcodes and searching by them is on every plan, the Free Trial included. Typing a code finds the product; it does not add it to the sale for you.

A barcode on every product

Type the code printed on the packaging into the product's barcode field, or use your own. Each size or colour of a product can carry its own code.

Find a product by its code

Type a barcode, or part of one, into the search box at the till or on the Products page and the matching product comes up. Tap it to add it to the sale.

One code, one product

Pulsevis refuses a barcode that another product already uses, so a code always leads to a single item.

Barcodes from a spreadsheet

Add a Barcode column to your CSV import. Importing again matches existing products by their barcode and updates them instead of adding duplicates.

Scan at checkout · Premium

Scan, and it is in the sale.

Barcode scanning at the counter is a Premium feature. Each scan is checked against your stock, so an item that has run out is not added unless you allow negative stock in Settings.

USB barcode scanner

Use a USB scanner set to keyboard mode that sends Enter after each code. Scan an item and it goes straight into the sale; scan it again to add one more.

Webcam

No scanner yet? Press the camera button beside the search box and hold the barcode up to the PC's camera. It reads one code at a time.

A code Pulsevis doesn't know

An unknown barcode is shown in the middle of the screen. Add the product there and then with its price, cost and quantity, and it joins the sale.

Generate barcodes

For goods that arrive without a code, or ones you pack and price yourself. In the product form and when printing labels, on Premium.

  • Tick Generate barcode when you add a product and Pulsevis creates one, such as PLS-00042
  • Choose the prefix and how many digits follow it in Settings
  • A product with sizes or colours gets a separate code for each variant
  • Printing a label for a product with no barcode creates its code first
  • A product that already has a barcode keeps it
Print labels for them

Print barcode labels

Label shelves and stock from your own PC, through a printer installed in Windows. Label printing is on Premium.

  • Pick products from a searchable list, or print one label from a product's row
  • Each label shows the product name, barcode and price, and you can leave any of them off
  • Set the label width and height in millimetres (50 × 30 to start with) and the copies per product
  • Valid EAN-13 and UPC-A codes print in that format, and everything else prints as Code 128
  • Labels go through the Windows print dialog, so do a test print to line them up with your label stock

Barcodes and product variants

Sizes and colours, each with its own code.

A shirt in four sizes and three colours is twelve barcodes, twelve prices if you want them, and twelve stock counts, all under one product.

A code for each size and colour

Give a product sizes, colours or other options and every combination can have its own barcode, price and stock.

The scan finds the exact variant

Scanning a variant's barcode adds that size and colour to the sale and takes it off that variant's stock, not the product's as a whole.

Labels per variant

Each variant prints with its own barcode and price. The label shows the product name; the size and colour are not printed on it.

Works with inventory and offline POS

Part of the same POS, not an add-on.

Barcodes sit on the same products, stock and PC as everything else in Pulsevis.

Every scanned sale takes the item off stock, variant by variant. Stock-in, batches, expiry and low-stock levels are on the inventory page.

Inventory management

A scan is matched against the products saved on your PC, so scanning keeps working when the internet is down.

Offline POS

Pulsevis runs on Windows 10 and 11. Your scanner, webcam and printers connect to the PC like any other device.

Barcode FAQ

Questions about barcodes in Pulsevis.

Still have a question? Email support@pulsevis.com — we answer within hours.

Can I store barcodes on the Free Trial?

Yes. On every plan you can save a barcode on a product or on each variant, type it in when you add the product, or bring it in with a CSV import.

Can I type a barcode to find a product?

Yes, on every plan. Type the code, or part of it, into the search box at the till or on the Products page and tap the product to add it.

Does barcode scanning require Premium?

Yes. Scanning an item straight into the sale, with a USB scanner or the PC's camera, is on Premium. On the Free Trial, find the product by typing its code instead.

Which barcode scanners work with Pulsevis?

USB scanners set to keyboard mode (sometimes called HID or keyboard emulation) that send Enter after each code. Pulsevis has no drivers of its own for particular models, so check that your scanner can be set up that way. A webcam can be used instead.

Can I print barcode labels?

Yes, on Premium. Choose the products, set the label size and the number of copies, and print through any printer installed in Windows. Each label can show the name, barcode and price.

Can sizes and colours have separate barcodes?

Yes. Each variant can have its own barcode, price and stock, and scanning it adds that exact size and colour to the sale. Pulsevis does not track individual units by serial or IMEI number.

Does Pulsevis look up product details online from a barcode?

No. Pulsevis does not connect to a barcode database. You enter the product's name, price and other details once, and after that the barcode finds it.

Are generated barcodes official retail codes?

No. A generated barcode is made from your prefix and the product's number, for use in your own shop. It is not a registered GS1 code, so use the manufacturer's code where a product already has one.
